An Oakland County judge on Tuesday, Oct. 13, refused to lower the $750,000 bond for a Wixom DoorDash driver charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 75-year-old Wixom man, The Oakland Press reported.
Ryan Turner of Wixom remains in the Oakland County Jail. His jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 8, 2027, before Oakland County Circuit Judge Cheryl Matthews, according to the Oakland Press. A final pretrial hearing is set for Jan. 19, 2027, at 1 p.m., New Media Detroit reported, citing court records.
Turner is accused in the death of Lloyd Poole, 75, of Wixom.
Charges are accusations; Turner is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
What police allege
Police say Poole confronted Turner, who was working as a DoorDash driver, about speeding on Dec. 28, 2025, near Barberry Circle and Windingway Drive in the Hidden Creek subdivision. Police say Turner punched Poole, who fell and hit his head on the road, and that Turner drove away, the Oakland Press reported.
Turner later went to the Wixom police station and told officers he struck Poole with a closed fist because he felt threatened, police said.
Poole was left unconscious and hospitalized, officials said. He died in May. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office then replaced a misdemeanor aggravated assault charge with the felony manslaughter charge, the Oakland Press reported.
Sentencing enhancement sought, report says
New Media Detroit reported Friday that prosecutors have filed a notice seeking a habitual offender, second-offense sentencing enhancement. The outlet said the notice cites a 2015 Oakland County felony conviction for delivery or manufacture of marijuana.
According to New Media Detroit, the enhancement would raise the maximum sentence if Turner is convicted from 15 years to 22½ years. The Journal has not independently confirmed the filing; the Oakland Press report on Tuesday's hearing did not mention it.
Reports differ on Turner's age, and the Journal has left it out of this story.
His attorney's name has not been reported.
