League races
MaxPreps standings show several Oakland County teams unbeaten in league play: Clarkston in the OAA Red, Ferndale in the OAA Gold, Stoney Creek in the OAA White and Madison (5-0) in the MAC Bronze. Harper Woods, a Wayne County school, leads the OAA Blue at 5-0. The Journal found no published report that any of those teams has clinched a title.
Royal Oak Shrine has clinched at least a share of the Catholic League Intersectional 2 title, according to MHSAA.com. Its game at Our Lady of the Lakes is a league game, so an outright title is at stake.
In the Lakes Valley, Milford (5-1 in the league) leads South Lyon (4-1) and Walled Lake Western (3-1). Milford hosts Lakeland this week and Western on Oct. 23.
Detroit Catholic Central (7-0), ranked No. 1 by MaxPreps, can clinch a share of the Catholic League Central title with a win at Toledo St. Francis de Sales, according to MHSAA.com.
Playoff picture
The MHSAA will announce the playoff field on Oct. 25. The Journal did not find a published playoff-points list for these teams, so the counts below are win totals only, based on MaxPreps records.
Six or more wins: Clarkston (7-0), Shrine (7-0), Ferndale, Madison, Milford, Oxford, Walled Lake Western, South Lyon East and Everest Collegiate (all 6-1).
Five wins, one away from six: Groves, Brother Rice, Orchard Lake St. Mary's, Holly, Brandon, Lamphere, Clawson, Country Day, Stoney Creek, South Lyon and North Farmington.
Looking ahead to Week 9 (Oct. 23)
