A 15-year-old Waterford boy riding an e-motorcycle was critically injured Thursday when an SUV struck him at a Waterford Township intersection, according to police as reported by WXYZ and Patch.
The crash happened about 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Williams Lake Road and Airport Road. Police told WXYZ the boy was riding in the crosswalk, heading south on Williams Lake Road on the west side of Airport Road, when he was hit by a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 35-year-old Highland woman. She was not hurt.
Police said the Equinox had a green light and the boy disregarded a "Do Not Walk" signal, WXYZ reported. Patch described him as speeding through the signal.
The boy is in critical but stable condition, police said. Patch reported he was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital; WXYZ did not name the hospital.
Patch initially described the vehicle as an e-bike. Waterford Township posted a press release Friday titled "Serious Injury E-Motorcycle-SUV Crash"; the Oakland County Journal could not open the document itself. Neither news report named the police agency, and police did not release other details.
The Oakland County Journal is not naming the boy because he is a minor.
