Drivers who've been dodging the Rochester Road construction through Troy neighborhoods are about to lose those shortcuts.
Starting Monday, Oct. 12, Sylvanwood, Trinway and Creston will close at Rochester Road for about three weeks, according to the City of Troy and WDIV. The city says the closures let crews finish paving the main road and will stop cut-through traffic that has overwhelmed nearby streets. Police have stepped up enforcement in the area.
Long Lake closure
The west side of Long Lake Road at Rochester Road closed Monday, Oct. 5, for about three weeks, weather permitting. The east side has been closed since June.
Detours send drivers north to Square Lake Road or south to Wattles Road. Long Lake between Livernois and Rochester is open to local traffic only.
Neighbors and businesses
Residents told WDIV that rush-hour backups stretch nearly a quarter mile. James Pitchford, executive chef at Pudge's Place, told the station the closure is "definitely affecting the business."
When it ends
According to the city, the new Rochester Road lanes are expected to open by the end of 2026, with final restoration work by summer 2027. Updates are posted on the city's Rochester Road construction page at troymi.gov.
