More than a month after a woman was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Southfield TGI Fridays, no one has been charged, and video of the shooting began circulating online this week.
Sonja Bruner, 58, was killed Sept. 4 during the "Lavish Bike Bash" event, FOX 2 reported. Two bystanders were wounded.
Where the case stands
A 35-year-old was taken into custody and released pending review by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office. The Journal is not naming that person because no charges have been filed.
Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren told FOX 2 that investigators are waiting on toxicology results for both Bruner and the shooter, expected within a couple of weeks. After that, he and the prosecutor will decide on charges. Whether the shooting was self-defense is a central question.
Barren also said online rumors that the shooter works in law enforcement are false.
The family
Bruner's family has questioned the self-defense claim after seeing the video, which began spreading Wednesday, Oct. 7. Her sister told FOX 2 she doesn't understand how the shooting could be considered self-defense.
The Journal will follow the prosecutor's decision.
