A man was shot and killed Monday afternoon, Oct. 19, in a Southfield neighborhood, and police took a 21-year-old relative of the victim into custody, the Southfield Police Department said.

Police said they got a report of shots fired at about 3:02 p.m. in the 17000 block of Dorset Avenue, CBS Detroit reported. Officers found a man who had been shot, and he died there.

Outlets described the location a little differently. CBS Detroit said the block is west of M-10. WXYZ placed it near Southfield Road, and Patch said it is between Eight Mile and Nine Mile roads.

The person in custody is a 21-year-old Southfield man who is a member of the victim's family, police said. Police had not released either man's name as of Tuesday, and no charges had been reported.

Police said there appears to be no further threat to the public. Police are still investigating, and the Oakland Press reported that they plan to release more details later.

Anyone with information is asked to call Southfield police at 248-796-5500 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
