Berkley: interviews for two open seats
The Berkley Board of Education will interview applicants and may make appointments at 6 p.m. Monday, according to the district. If the number of applications requires it, a second session will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26.
Applications closed Thursday, Oct. 15. The district has not said publicly how many people applied or who they are.
The board is filling:
- a two-month term that ends Dec. 31, 2026, and
- a 26-month term that ends Dec. 31, 2028.
Appointees' first board meeting is Monday, Nov. 2, according to the district. The seats opened when the board's president and vice president resigned Oct. 1. Background on the vacancies.
Hazel Park: regular meeting, no agenda online
The Hazel Park Board of Education's regular meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday at the Ford Administration Building, 1620 E. Elza, according to the district's meeting calendar.
As of Monday afternoon, the district's BoardBook portal, where it posts board agendas, listed no Oct. 19 meeting. The newest meetings shown were the Oct. 12 Committee of the Whole and an Oct. 5 special workshop. The Journal could not confirm whether the district posted an agenda or notice somewhere else, such as at the administration building.
Material from the board's Oct. 12 Committee of the Whole meeting hints at one item that may come up. A memo on a career and technical education expansion grant is labeled with the Oct. 19 date.
The Oct. 12 agenda also included a second representation agreement with The Williams Firm, filed under the name "Investigation 2." The Journal has not confirmed what action, if any, the board took on it.
The Journal found nothing new on Superintendent Amy Wilcox. No public record found by the Journal shows whether the retirement agreement the board accepted 4-3 on Sept. 28, as the Detroit News reported, has been signed by both sides, or whether her federal lawsuit against the district has been dismissed.
