The westbound I-696 exit to Woodward Avenue is open again, a day earlier than expected, and the Road Commission for Oakland County has posted its list of projects that could slow drivers between Oct. 16 and Oct. 23.
I-696: Woodward exit and Campbell/Hilton ramp open
The westbound I-696 off-ramp to Woodward Avenue and the Campbell/Hilton on-ramp to westbound I-696 are open, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation's DrivingOakland.com project site, which lists both as opened Oct. 16. The Journal had reported, citing WXYZ, that the Woodward exit would reopen Saturday, Oct. 17.
Lane closures continue on the westbound 10 Mile Road service drive at Woodward for structure, signal and paving work, and the eastbound service drive keeps two lanes open at Woodward for bridge deck patching and signal upgrades, MDOT says.
Still closed through late 2026, according to MDOT:
- Eastbound I-696 from M-10 (the Lodge) to I-75. Detour: southbound M-10 to eastbound M-8 (Davison) to northbound I-75.
- All eastbound I-696 exit and entrance ramps in that stretch, including Lahser, Evergreen, Southfield, Greenfield, Coolidge, Woodward, Campbell/Hilton and the eastbound I-696 ramps to I-75.
- Church Street bridge over I-696, both directions.
- Southbound M-10 ramps to southbound US-24 and to eastbound I-696; northbound US-24 to eastbound I-696; southbound US-24 to southbound M-10.
West of the Lodge, eastbound I-696 from Orchard Lake Road to M-10 has its left two lanes closed with a lane shift through fall 2026, MDOT says.
The Journal did not find any MDOT freeway closures announced for this weekend in Oakland County. Check Mi Drive before you go.
