Westbound Quarton Road closes Thursday through Nov. 30; Lyon Township roundabouts close this weekend
Westbound Quarton Road between Cranbrook Road and Chesterfield Avenue closes Oct. 22 through Nov. 30 for signal work. Two Lyon Township roundabouts close for repaving Oct. 24 and 25. The Road Commission also wants comments on park land for a 2027 Kent Lake Road project.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) announced several road closures and a project on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Quarton Road, Oct. 22 to Nov. 30
Westbound Quarton Road will close from Cranbrook Road to Chesterfield Avenue, just west of Woodward Avenue, starting Thursday, Oct. 22. RCOC said the closure runs through Monday, Nov. 30. The stretch sits where Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Township meet.
RCOC issued the permit for pedestrian signal work being done for Bloomfield Township as part of the township's safety path and signal program. Eastbound Quarton will stay open, and drivers can still reach homes and businesses from the eastbound side. The detour for westbound traffic runs from Woodward Avenue to Long Lake Road to Lahser Road and back to Quarton. RCOC said about 9,660 vehicles a day use that section of westbound Quarton.
Lyon Township roundabouts, Oct. 24 and 25
West of Milford Road in Lyon Township, two roundabouts will each close for one day so a contractor can grind off the old pavement and lay new asphalt:
- Saturday, Oct. 24: New Hudson Drive/Pontiac Trail roundabout, closing and reopening the same day.
- Sunday, Oct. 25: Lyon Center Drive/Grand River Avenue roundabout, closing and reopening the same day.
RCOC said milling and paving on the rest of Lyon Center Drive and New Hudson Drive, from Milford Road to Pontiac Trail, is expected to begin Monday, Oct. 26, weather permitting. The roads will stay open, with flaggers alternating traffic, and drivers should expect delays. RCOC said that paving will take several days and depends on the weather.
Comments sought on 2027 Kent Lake Road project
RCOC is also taking public comments on plans to temporarily use small pieces of Island Lake State Recreation Area, the Huron Valley Trail and Kensington Metropark during a roughly $3 million project in 2027. The project will rebuild the Kent Lake Road and Grand River Avenue intersection in Lyon Township. The intersection and the eastbound I-96 on-ramp from Kent Lake Road will close during construction, which is expected to run from August 2027 into the fall. Utility work and tree clearing are planned for the winter of 2026-27. Comments can be made at 877-858-4804 or design@rcoc.org. RCOC did not give a deadline.
