A 27-year-old Pontiac man is charged with firing a gun several times during a dispute between two vehicles last weekend on East Beverly Avenue in Pontiac, according to an Oakland County Prosecutor's Office news release cited by The Oakland Press.
Jordan Alexander-Funes Quintero is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless use of a firearm, felony firearm and operating without a license, The Oakland Press reported. Bond was set at $100,000 with a 10% provision, meaning he can be released if he posts $10,000. He would then have to wear an electronic tether.
He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Update, 5:52 p.m. Oct. 21: Quintero was arraigned Wednesday in 50th District Court, WWJ reported, and is being held in the Oakland County Jail. Bond remains $100,000, 10% cash or surety, with a GPS tether if he is released. WWJ and Mid-Michigan NOW list the assault charge as felonious assault. WWJ reported he did not have a concealed pistol license.
Mid-Michigan NOW, citing the sheriff's office, reported the shooting happened about 1:37 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, and WWJ also said early Sunday. The Oakland Press had reported early Saturday, Oct. 17. The sheriff's office said the gunfire stemmed from a domestic dispute between Quintero and a woman driving the other car.
According to the sheriff's office account, detectives reviewed home surveillance video from nearby residences and noted distinguishing features of the suspect's car, including a design on the driver's side doors, a rear spoiler and a front license plate. They used the license plate recognition system to search for a matching vehicle, which had been captured by a Flock camera in Pontiac, and identified its registered owner. Detectives stopped the car on Kennett Road in Pontiac on Monday, Oct. 19, and took the driver into custody without incident, Mid-Michigan NOW reported. Detectives also found the second vehicle and a woman who confirmed she had been present, the report said.
What prosecutors allege
Oakland County sheriff's deputies responded to the 700 block of East Beverly Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. on reports of gunfire and a vehicle crash, officials said.
According to the prosecutor's office, surveillance video reportedly showed Quintero get out of a silver sedan, walk up to another vehicle and fire several shots into the ground next to its driver's side door. Prosecutors allege that after he got back in his car and began driving away, the other vehicle struck his sedan from behind, and he got out again and fired more shots as the other vehicle drove away.
Deputies found 10 spent 9mm shell casings and one live round, the sheriff's office said. No apparent bullet damage was found in the immediate area.
Officials said license plate readers and other surveillance equipment led to the arrest. The county jail roster shows he was booked shortly before 11 p.m. on Oct. 19, according to The Oakland Press.
"There's no excuse for attempting to settle disputes with guns," Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in the news release, adding that firing at a car on a residential street could have endangered innocent bystanders.
