More than 900 Oakland County jobs are covered by three layoff notices on the State of Michigan's list of WARN notices, including two Fifth Third Bank locations and an industrial supplier closing its Troy site.

WARN notices are advance warnings employers file before mass layoffs and plant closings. Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity posts them online. The Journal reviewed all 119 notices on the state's list as of Wednesday, Oct. 14.

The notices

Fifth Third Bank, 36455 Corporate Drive, Farmington Hills

  • Type: permanent layoff
  • Jobs: 637. The list marks this entry "updated" but does not say when it changed or what the earlier number was.
  • Dates listed: July 1, 2026, to November 2026

Fifth Third Bank, 3701 Hamlin Road, Auburn Hills

  • Type: mass layoff
  • Jobs: 234
  • Date listed: Sept. 11, 2026
  • Reason: not reported

Trystar LLC, 1955 Stephenson Highway, Troy

  • Type: facility closure, with operations being transferred
  • Jobs: 71
  • Dates listed: Sept. 4, 2026, to Dec. 31, 2026

Together, the two Fifth Third entries cover 871 jobs.

What the list doesn't say

The state's list shows the dates of the layoffs, not the dates the notices were filed. So it isn't possible to tell from the list when each notice was submitted.

The Journal found no new Oakland County notice on the list with a layoff date in October 2026.

The list also doesn't say whether affected workers will be offered jobs elsewhere in the company, and it gives no reason for the cuts beyond the notice type.

Other notices on the list for Oakland County sites with 2026 layoff dates:

  • Dako Resources, Auburn Hills: 82 jobs (June 30)
  • Compass Group, Madison Heights: closure, 114 jobs (April 6)
  • First Brands Group, Rochester Hills: 41 jobs (February to May)
  • The Common Ground Sanctuary, Pontiac: 155 jobs (Feb. 16)
  • The Taubman Co., Bloomfield Hills: closure, 105 jobs (Jan. 9)
  • Our Next Energy, Novi: 29 jobs (Jan. 6)

A Compass Group/Morrison Healthcare notice covering 311 jobs at eight hospital sites, including one in Pontiac, lists a July 24 layoff date. It does not break out jobs by site.

Just outside the county, notices on the list include Trinity Health in Livonia (557 jobs, Oct. 25 to Nov. 29), a Niagara Bottling closure in Plymouth (86 jobs, Oct. 31) and a Lear closure in Sterling Heights (67 jobs, Nov. 9).
