Oakland County has had the same flag since 1970. Most residents have never seen it — and the Board of Commissioners wants to change that.
The county is taking public design submissions for a new flag through Jan. 4, 2027, at 5 p.m., through its "A County Flag for the Future" page on the county website, WCSX reported.
The rules
- Designs must be original.
- No artificial intelligence may be used to create entries.
- There is no prize, and designers give up intellectual property rights to their submissions.
Who's behind it
The effort is led by a commission work group chaired by Commissioner Brendan Johnson, D-Rochester Hills. Commissioner Robert Smiley, R-Wixom, is a member.
"Very few of our residents even know Oakland County has a flag," Johnson said, according to WCSX.
