Court watch: Hearings this month in Woodward crash, Pontiac park shooting and Berkley crash cases

Upcoming Oakland County court dates in cases the Journal has been following, from a fatal Woodward Avenue crash to the Southfield shooting that killed a family dog.

Here are upcoming court dates in Oakland County cases the Journal is following. Court schedules change often; dates are as last reported. Everyone charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Tuesday, Oct. 13

Woodward-Quarton fatal crash. Robert Isho, 34, is charged with felony reckless driving causing death in the May 31 crash at Woodward Avenue and Quarton Road that killed O'Brian Nelson, WXYZ reported. A probable cause conference is set for Oct. 13, with a preliminary exam Oct. 20. Bond was set at $25,000 at 10%, which was posted, and he is barred from driving.

Pontiac park shooting. Ruben Aleman Contreras of Detroit is charged in an Aug. 23 shooting at Jaycee Park in Pontiac, CBS Detroit reported. He is due in 50th District Court at 1:30 p.m. Bond was denied.

Friday, Oct. 16

Fiery Berkley crash. Marquis D. Jackson, 40, of Detroit, faces a probable cause conference on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death. Police allege his SUV topped 100 mph before hitting a tree and burning at Edgewood and Henley on Sept. 7. Passenger Eugene Garnett, 51, of Warren, was killed. Read our earlier story.

Garnett's sister told WDIV she plans to attend. "Eugene was the type of person that will light up a room," Eteria Myers said.

Thursday, Oct. 22

Southfield shooting that killed a family dog. DeMarco Lewis, 29, and Larry Nelson Jr., 25, both of Detroit, are scheduled for a preliminary hearing in 46th District Court, WDIV reported. Read our story.

Waiting on outcomes

Hearings were scheduled this past week in two cases, but results had not been reported as of Saturday:

  • Royal Oak shooting: Rico Decarlos Jones Jr., 20, of Detroit had a hearing tentatively set for Oct. 9. Background.
  • Farmington Public Schools embezzlement: Retired district liaison Hatty Ligon had a pre-exam conference Oct. 9 in 47th District Court. Background.
