A Highland Township man will spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting and killing his fiancée, the mother of their infant son.

Michael Devon Webb was sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 7, to life without the possibility of parole, FOX 2 and WDIV reported. An Oakland County jury convicted him of first-degree murder on July 17.

The case

Rachel Wooten was shot in the neck at close range at the couple's Highland Township home in April 2025, according to CBS Detroit's reporting at the time charges were filed.

Webb called 911 and told authorities the gun went off while he was cleaning it. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the evidence did not support that account.

"Michael Webb executed Rachel Wooten in front of their child, then called 911 and lied about it," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, according to FOX 2.

McDonald also pointed to the broader problem of domestic violence, saying too many women and children live in fear without the resources to escape.
