Three Detroit men are charged with first-degree murder in the August shooting death of a Hazel Park man, a killing investigators say was payback for a fatal stabbing in Detroit earlier that day.

Hazel Park police announced the charges Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to WDIV.

The men charged are:

  • Terryon Anthony Brown, 20
  • Dashawn Deonte Clayborn-Marshall, 23
  • Quintaz Eric Dyer, 21

Each faces counts of first-degree murder, home invasion, armed robbery and felony firearm. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office authorized the warrants.

Charges are accusations; each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

What police allege

Officers were called shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, to reports of gunshots inside a home in the 500 block of East George Avenue, WDIV reported. They found Ryan Leslie Adams, 43, of Hazel Park, with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators believe Adams was the only person targeted, according to WDIV.

Police say Adams was a suspect in a fatal stabbing in Detroit in the early morning hours of Aug. 3. Investigators believe the Hazel Park shooting was retaliation for that stabbing.

The Detroit stabbing victim has not been identified in reports the Journal reviewed, and no charges in that case have been reported.

Court dates

Brown and Clayborn-Marshall were arraigned Sept. 5 in Hazel Park District Court, and Dyer was arraigned Sept. 29, according to WDIV. Court documents show bond was denied for all three, WDIV reported.

A preliminary examination conference is set for Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Police have not said why the charges were announced more than a month after the arraignments. The defendants' attorneys had not been reported.
