Hazel Park City Councilmember Luke Londo is resigning effective Sunday, Nov. 1, and the city is taking applications from residents who want to fill his seat, the Oakland County Times reported.
Londo is moving to Ann Arbor for a new job and to live with his partner, according to the Times.
He was first appointed to the council in January 2021 to fill a vacancy and has since served one full term and two partial terms, the Times reported. The Times listed a human rights ordinance, a do-not-knock ordinance, protections for diverse family structures and the decriminalization of entheogenic substances among his work on the council.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed Londo to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, which he began chairing this year as its first openly LGBTQ chair.
"Being a City Councilmember is not for the faint of heart," he told the Times.
