Detroit Country Day won the Lower Peninsula Division 3 boys tennis championship by a single point Saturday, Oct. 17, beating Cranbrook Kingswood 34-33 at the Midland Tennis Center, according to MHSAA.com.
It was a reversal of last year. Cranbrook took the 2025 title from Country Day, which had been co-champion, by the same 34-33 score, MHSAA.com reported.
Sophomore Samuel Kole-James scored the clinching point for Country Day at No. 2 singles, coming back to win 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) for his second straight title at that flight, according to MHSAA.com. He said he kept telling himself to stay positive and stay in the match.
Country Day coach Nicholas Fiaschetti told MHSAA.com that matches against Cranbrook are always close. He said his players were "able to focus up when we needed it the most."
