A Bloomfield Township man is charged with a felony after police say he claimed to be a terrorist and referenced explosions inside a 7-Eleven store on Monday, WDIV reported Friday.
Ramzi Braham is charged with one count of false report or threat of terrorism, which carries up to 20 years in prison, according to WDIV. The warrant was issued by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office. His age was not reported.
What police say happened
Bloomfield Township police were called at about 9:44 a.m. Oct. 19 to the 7-Eleven on West Maple Road for a report of a man acting erratically and stealing a pack of cigarettes, the station reported.
Police say the man yelled at customers, claimed he was a terrorist and referenced explosions before running off on foot, according to WDIV. Officers found him minutes later, still carrying the cigarettes, and arrested him.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, investigators carried out a search warrant at a home in Bloomfield Township, WDIV reported. Oakland County SWAT and Michigan State Police assisted as a precaution, according to the station.
Braham was arraigned Thursday in 48th District Court, where bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety with a 10% option, WDIV reported.
A charge is an accusation, and Braham is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The Oakland County Journal found no other published account of the case as of Friday morning.
